Knox Grammar School Year 12 student Harry Partridge (Turramurra) has been selected to represent Australia at the 2018 Asian Physics Olympiad in Vietnam in May this year. This places Harry in the top 8 students in Australia.
Harry was selected for the team after sitting four gruelling entrance exams over two weeks at the Physics Olympiad Summer School in Canberra in January.
“At the end of the first week of summer school, we had our first exams: a 2 hour 30 minute lab, and a 3 hour theory exam,” says Harry. “At the end of the second week, we had our second set of exams: a 3 hour 30 minute lab, and a 5 hour theory exam.”
Harry says he is looking forward to reuniting with the friends he met at summer school as well as being challenged in the competition.
“I love physics because it is a subject which teaches you to really understand the world around you in great depth,” he says.
“Simple things which you had always overlooked suddenly become interesting physical problems, and seemingly complicated interactions quickly reduce to simple solutions,” said Harry.
