Under the guiding principle of Service, and to give back to the Lithgow community where this year’s Annual Field Exercise (AFX) was held, the Knox Ravenswood Army Cadet Unit (KRACU) conducted community service activities in partnership with Lithgow Oberon Landcare, Police Citizens Youth Club (PCYC) and the Lithgow Volunteer Rescue Association (VRA).

As part of regional Landcare restoration works, cadets planted approximately 400 native saplings along the Farmers Creek corridor that runs through the AFX area, to help restore degraded waterways and support long‑term biodiversity outcomes.
To reduce waste, food donations of unused long‑life items were coordinated at the Lithgow PCYC. These supplies were redirected to support local youth and community food initiatives.
Cadets were also educated on the importance of the VRA’s role and their vital work in providing critical emergency response services to the local area. To assist, cadets worked with the VRA volunteers to help maintain their facilities by painting the VRA headquarters.
We commend the cadets for their participation in these service-based initiatives, further strengthening their understanding of the unit’s connection to, and responsibility toward, the local community.
